Since1985, Holly van Gulden has beent training adoptive and foster parents and professionals throughout the United Sates, England, Scotland and Canada. In addition, for over fifteen years, Holly has co-directed Adoptive Family Counseling Center withClaude Riedel.
Holly's refreshing blend of humor and compassion has led her to be invited back repeatedly to speak before such national and international organizations as Adoptive Families of America and the North American Counsel on Adoptable Children. Holly also serves as a consultant to numerous clinics, residential treatment centers and adoption agencies in the US and the UK.
Holly has co-authored books including, “Learning the Dance of Attachment”, “Real Parent, Real Children: Parenting the Adopted Child”; and “In Search of Self: Reclaiming and Healing the Lost, Founded, and Missing Parts of Self.” She has also been a columnist and is currently a regular contributor for “Adoptive Families” magazine.
Holly earned her B.S. from the University of Chicago and is completing her Master’s Thesis for St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Holly is herself an adoptive parent tne grew up in a multi-racial, international family comprised of six children born to the family, four adopted children and several foster brothers and sisters. This blend of professional and personal experience has given her extra insight into what it’s like to grow up adopted and to parent through adoption. |
